Portsmouth High seniors collect caps and gowns at 'drive-through'

You want an order of tassels to go with that?

PORTSMOUTH — Problem: How to safely distribute graduation caps and gowns to Portsmouth High School seniors in the midst of a pandemic?

Solution: A drive-through system using a basket attached to a long pole.

On Wednesday, seniors collected their caps and gowns by driving up to a window at the main office, where district staff members Pat Wentzel and Donna Lunney handed packages out. It wasn’t unlike picking up a bag of cheeseburgers and fries at McDonald’s.

As for how graduation will be celebrated, nothing had been finalized as of Wednesday morning. However, one idea that’s being floated is having students arrive in cars at the polo field at Glen Farm, where they’ll be recognized individually as they step out of their vehicle.
