PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth High varsity boys’ hockey team was down but never out.

The No. 4-seeded Patriots dropped the first game of the Division II quarterfinals against West Warwick, the No. 4 seed, on Friday, 5-4. But the next day, they stormed back to tie the series up with a 5-3 victory.

In the deciding game on Monday at the Benny Magiera Rink in West Warwick, Portsmouth dominated the Wizards for a 9-2 victory to take the series. 

The Patriots advance to play the No. 1 seed, Ponaganset, in the semifinal round at Schneider Arena at Providence College at 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 10.

He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far.
