Robitaille, Annicelli shine on the mound in recent Townie wins

EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence High School baseball team collected a pair of solid Division II wins over the last week, sparked by two superb pitching performances by two emerging sophomore starters.

The Townies earned a road victory last week while improving to 7-4 at the time when they beat St. Raphael by a 6-1 score.

Sophomore right-hander Tim Robitaille, who earlier this spring threw a one-hitter, took a no-hitter into the sixth on the mound for EPHS and picked up the win. Dylan Annicelli picked up his classmate in the final frame as he struck out the Saints in order to finish off the win in the seventh.

Jack McKnight led a potent East Providence offense, accounting for four of East Providence's 13 hits on the day.

EPHS followed up with another victory and yet another superb pitching performance as this time Annicelli both started and finished a 1-0 win over visiting Tiverton Friday night, May 5.

The sophomore, who threw a complete game in the Townies' season opening win over Burrillville, again went the seven-inning distance on 103 pitches. He allowed just one hit, struck out seven and walked five.

Co-captain McKnight scored the lone run of the game, driven in by Ziurel Vargas. The game also marked the return for EPHS of senior co-captain Manny “Chico” Santos, who missed the first half of the year with a hand injury. Santos went 2-for-3 at the plate in his 2023 debut.
