BRISTOL — The Providence County Day/St. Raphael Academy co-op recorded a pair of impressive doubles Friday night, Feb. 17, in the Division IV Championships held at the Roger Williams University aquatics center, sweeping the league meet titles while also defending its girls’ crown.

PCD/SRA won the inaugural girls’ D-IV championship last winter and defended its trophy last weekend by scoring 432 points. As they did in both meets, the locals used their superior depth to dispatch their opposition. Pilgrim was a distant second with 325 points and Blackstone Valley Prep third with 260. East Providence High School placed sixth out of seven teams with 116 points.

“The girls were hurt by illness, but those who swim did great,” said EPHS head coach Bob Hassan.

On the boys’ side, PCD/SRA, which shared first place in the dual meet regular season with EPHS and BVP, narrowly won its first D-IV title with 322 points. Blackstone Valley won eight of the 11 events, but it wasn’t enough as the team earned 321 points. The Townies were third with 247. Middletown, which won the first ever D-IV boys' title last year, participated in Division III this winter.
