Homegrown ‘party’ raises funds for East Providence Arts Council

Local musician Leffingwell wins “Bovicaster” guitar raffle

EAST PROVIDENCE — The Fifth Annual Homegrown Music Seminars Party went down Sunday afternoon, Jan. 27, at Stevie D’s Riverside Tavern, the event doubling as a fundraiser for the East Providence Arts Council which received all of the proceeds from the day.

About $1,800 was raised for the E.P. Arts Council. The five-hour concert featuring numerous local musicians kept Stevie D’s pretty much at full capacity, around 200 patrons, throughout the afternoon, said council chairman Rick Lawson, who also noted there was a wait to get into the tavern.

Eric Leffingwell won the “Bovicaster” guitar auctioned off at the event. Conceived by city residents and frequenters of the former Bovi’s Tavern Stephanie Triolo and Tony Ottone, the “Bovicaster,” made in the likeness of a Fender Stratocaster, was hand crafted and created by local artist Vincent Goulart out of salvaged wood from the stage of the now-shuttered but still revered local establishment.

A musician himself, Mr. Leffingwell said of winning the raffle, "I'm very excited and looking forward to this build. I will certainly do it justice!"

Frederick DeAngelis is the founder of Homegrown Music Seminars. William Hurley and Mr. Lawson assisted in organizing the annual all-day music event.

“This is the second year the Homegrown Music Seminars has allowed their yearly party to be used as a fundraiser for the East Providence Arts Council,” Mr. Lawson said. “For the Arts Council this is a perfect event because it showcases the amazing musicians we have in the area and with the large crowd that attended it just shows East Providence has an appetite for arts related events. Between the success of this and ‘The Looff’ (annual summer arts festival), I am more determined than ever to help bring more venues to the city that showcases the arts.”
