Shots taken from the cross spans in East Providence of Washington Bridge fixes

EAST PROVIDENCE — Construction crews in recent days scurried to configure two westerly lanes on the east side of the Washington Bridge to help alleviate congestion created by the necessary closure of the westbound portion of the structure.

Susan Cady, familiar to many in the city for chronicalling veterans affairs for the East Providence Historical Society, submitted the accompanying gallery of photos.

The closure of the west side of the 58-year-old bridge due to critically deficient rods supporting the substructure on Monday afternoon, Dec. 11, and the subsequent traffic nightmare created in East Providence made national headlines.
