EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence High School Musical Theatre Group presented three performances of “In the Heights,” based on the book by Quiara Algría Hudes with music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda last weekend in the Elmasian Auditorium, March 30-April 1.

According to the play bill, “In the Heights” takes place in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City, the scent of sweet warm coffee hangs in the air just outside of the 181st St. subway stop, where a collection of hopes and dreams rallies a vibrant and tight-knit community. At the center of it all is a likable and magnetic bodega owner, Usnavi, who hopes, imagines and sings about a better life.

The roles/cast included: Usnavi De La Vega, performed by Jeffrey Bento; Nina Rosario, performed by Megane Leopold; Kevin Rosario, performed by Wyatt Keough; Camila Rosario, performed by Mariana Naranjo; Benny, performed by Joshua Jean-Louis; Vanessa, performed by Makena Petsch; Sonny, performed by Jayden Cruz; Abuela Claudia, performed by Kennedy Salgueiro; Daniela, performed by Amaiya Winter; Carla, performed by Elizabeth Nunes; Graffiti Pete, performed by Ash Levesque; and Piraguero, performed by Aden Hernandez.

The dance and ensemble were Evangelina Choummalaithong, Ella Palumbo, Hannah Gould, Nora Fineran, Tatiana Chobanian, Rosie Gurna, Sydney Sheats, Erin McLaughlin, James Schuller, Kyra DiOrio and Carter Besette-Warwick. The ensemble was Emily Bairos, Damian Sarkis, Molly Penden, Jayla Lovegrove, Jenna Coite, Michaela Gallagher, Daniella Paixao, Melanie Colin, Nazarae Phillip, Christian Taveras.
