As residents of a coastal community, I believe we share a special appreciation for the importance of protecting our natural environment. As vice chair of the Senate Committee on Environment & Agriculture, I have been proud to pass legislation that will have a positive environmental impact.
Among the most significant new laws enacted are those that promote the growth of renewable energy in our state, increasing job opportunities while reducing reliance on dirty fossil fuels. I also sponsored components of the Senate’s “Grow Green Jobs RI” action plan, which included promoting expansion of sustainability and resiliency degrees in higher education. Rhode Islanders pursuing careers in resiliency fields will help communities like Barrington, Bristol and East Providence better prepare for rising sea levels.
Additionally, I urge all Rhode Islanders to join me in supporting Question 3, the “Environment, Recreation and Water Infrastructure Bond,” which we placed on the November ballot.
