Judge rules Soares did not violate parole

Posted

A New Bedford District Court judge on Friday ruled that former Westport Select Board member Manuel Soares Jr. did not violate parole imposed earlier this year when he pleaded guilty to several trespassing charges tied to a land dispute case out of Dartmouth. He will remain on probation for the remainder of the two-year suspended sentences imposed earlier this year.

The judge’s finding comes weeks after a Fall River District Court judge found him in violation of a Westport abuse prevention order and sentenced him to 120 days in the Bristol County House of Correction. Three other similar charges brought by Westport police, unrelated to the Dartmouth cases, were dismissed by two judges last month.
