Court mandated eviction after rent went unpaid
WARREN — Basically British Tea Room, a Cutler Mills restaurant known for its crumpets and European flair, was shut down on Saturday, June 27, after Providence District Court issued an eviction notice due to owner Fariba Goldberg’s failure to pay rent and utility bills.
Ms. Goldberg and landlord Michael Sigourney ironed out a legal stipulation in court between their lawyers starting in May after Ms. Goldberg became late in her rent payments. Because she fell short in those payments as mandated in the stipulation she was ordered to immediately vacate the premises as soon as midnight hit this past Saturday.

You try competeing with the coffee shop you will be shut down hahahaha
Another business gone. How sad
it is really not sad when you consider the facts. This woman, apparently, has been defaulting on payments for several years and somehow kept her business open and delayed her own eviction several times.
And in reality, it is only sad if the business was actually profitable, and it appears that this one was not. Profitable businesses stay in business and that is the nature of free enterprise. Any other way is called socialism.
This lady wrote many rubber checks.
To laugh at someone else's misfortune is the most cruelist and inhuman of all things to do.
I am not laughing at anyone's misfortune. Many months with with not paying the rent or utility bills. Who in their right mind would feel they do not have to pay those bills each month. Why should the landlord be stuck with all of the bills. I feel bad for her kids and employees.
It was only a matter of time till this closed down as this woman clearly is not a business woman, she had a great building in a great spot but didnt know how to run it so that it would profit and become an asset to the local community, her food and teas were over priced, so she did not build up and real regular customers.
It would be good to see this building be used to its full capacity.
Not sorry to see her go...
Im pretty sure laughing at someones misfortunes doesnt lie in between rape and murder as the most inhumane and cruelist things.

True, unless of course the business is GM or Chrysler. Then the tax payers inject BILLIONS to keep a non profitable company afloat. Capitalism at its finest!
no, dead, that is socialism. It was incredibly stupid to inject all that money into them. I am a capitalist, I believe if a business makes bad decisions, it has every right to fail.
I went in there once to see what the place was like. I concluded I couldn't afford it, and I left wondering exactly who their customers were. I continue to be befuddled by businesses which settle in Warren but really cater to Barrington and Bristol residents. Warren is full of such businesses, and I see a lot of them closing.
This business accepted a deposit for a function knowing full well she would not be able to commit to the function and left a wedding shower high and dry and never returned the deposit.
"I continue to be befuddled by businesses which settle in Warren but really cater to Barrington and Bristol residents."
What does this mean? Are you saying that Bristol/Barrington residents are the East Bay elite while Warren houses the dregs of coastal society? In that case, let's build a few more Dunkin Donuts or greasy spoon breakfast places.
Anytime a small eatery like Basically British comes to town, it is a dream of a small business owner to provide a unique experience for their customers to enjoy. I don't think this person was trying to "cater" to certain residet clientele. I just believe she saw an opportunity for something unique.
Unfortunately, when you can't pay the bills and aren't making a profit, it is time to throw in the towel and cut your losses. And by cutting losses, I don't mean putting them on your landlord. She has had more than enough chances to make things right. Business is business.
Unfortunately this is a common scenario in this economy. It is unfortunate and sad. I would not wish failure on anyone unless they clearly deserved it. And who am I to judge that
Oh, I thought maybe they were shut down because they started selling guns.
