Speed boat fanatics delight over boat races

Posted

Speed boat fanatics lined the Taunton River to view boat races participating in the Fall River Grand Prix on Sunday afternoon. Viewers could hear the boat engines revving up before they saw water spraying high into the air as the boats sped through the course along the Fall River coast under the Braga Bridge. Tiverton and Portsmouth Residents close to the action could view the races from their shores. More than 50 race teams came from across the U.S. to compete in the Offshore Powerboat Association race that is part of the GEICO Triple Crown Series.

The 47-foot-long Miss GEICO Victory catamaran, made of carbon, Kevlar, and S-glass for high performance, was stationed in the middle of the course. The boat sports a pair of 1650 RACE Sterndrive twin turbo engines producing more than 3,000 horsepower and top speeds of 200 mph.

“We’re all about safety any time we’re on the water but our goals at the start of 2018 included winning the GEICO Triple Crown and completing the season with our 11th world championship title,” said Team Manager Scott Colton. “It’s great to return to Fall River. We enjoyed the warmth and hospitality everyone shared in 2017 when we were in the area.”
