Letter: Support for our performing artists

To the editor:

This summer, our daughter was fortunate to be part of a wonderful group of kids who worked with Bristol Theater Company. Their hard work culminated this past weekend in four outstanding performances of Disney’s “Descendants: The Musical”. We were blown away by both the talented kids and the adult volunteers who contributed their skills, passion and countless hours to give these kids the opportunity to shine. We want to thank every adult who made this fantastic show happen.

COVID hit the performing arts community especially hard. It is truly a thrill to see these rising stars once again on stage singing, acting, dancing and creating joy. We sincerely hope that our East Bay towns, school districts and communities can support our performing artists, and to provide the spaces and resources they need to pursue their dreams.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
