Joyce C. De Luca, age 82, of Barrington, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018 at 82 Glen Road in Portsmouth, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Dr. Frank De Luca, her husband for 52 years.
Born and raised in Lancaster, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Robert Emerson Wireback and late Hilda (Monteuth) Wireback. She attended Temple University, earning a nursing degree and Boston College for a bachelor of science, after which she enjoyed public health nursing in South Boston.
She met her husband while at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and decided to start a family by raising five children. In her 40s she received her masters in early childhood education at Wheelock College. Joyce enriched families’ lives in Barrington and the surrounding area by opening Barrington Early Learning Center which she enjoyed running for 20 years. She had a beautiful heart, smile, and spirit that won people over as soon as they met her. Her radiance lit up the space and hearts of all those she encountered. She will be remembered by the members of her spiritual group as a dedicated mentor offering guidance, wisdom and loving support for 40 years.
Joyce will be deeply missed by her sister, Judy Wireback of Pittsburgh, Pa. and her five children: Dr. BetheAnne De Luca-Verley, Francine De Luca Soldi, Michele De Luca-Verley, Denise De Luca and Thomas De Luca. Her 10 grandchildren will keep her lessons of courage, love and generous spirit close to their hearts. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass celebrating Joyce’s life at the Carmelite Monastery, 25 Watson Ave. in Barrington, Thursday, Aug. 9 at 10 a.m. The family requests a private burial.
