Break a board to fight Alzheimer’s disease

Kicking Causes ​Hosts The Longest Day ​for the Alzheimer’s Association at Rocky Silva’s American Karate, 1275 Fall River Avenue​, Seekonk, on Saturday, June, 11, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.​

The event will feature karate board breaking and board decorating, exciting martial arts performances, guest speakers, family resources, silent auction, gift basket raffle, prize give­-aways, physical challenges and games and activities for the whole family.

Come and break a board or sponsor a board for ten dollars. A karate instructor will teach you how to break a board!

The event is free and open to the public.

Meet our staff
Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
