St. Andrew’s School recently honored the White family at the annual Saints Gala: A Night of Shining Stars. 

The event took place Thursday, April 25, acknowledging the generosity and dedication of Happy and John Hazen White, Sr., Liz and John Hazen White, Jr., Kate and John Hazen White, III, and Kirsten and Benjamin White ‘08 to the school. The family was presented with a named space on campus, the White Family Commons in Hardy Hall. 

“The legacy of the White family and St. Andrew’s School spans three generations and we are incredibly grateful for their years of generosity,” said Head of School David Tinagero. “From their creation of an art program and the Happy White Endowment for the Visual Arts, to their continued service on school committees and the Board of Trustees, the family’s contributions have enriched the lives of St. Andrew’s students and their educational experience.”

Before the award presentation, longtime Board of Directors Trustee Pam Faulkner said, “Not only does this family give their time, wise counsel, hands-on volunteering, and leadership, but they have committed to ensure that St. Andrew’s remains strong into the future. We are forever grateful for their incredible support and to sit beside them in the school’s commitment to young learners.”

Faculty member, parent, and alumna Ashley Taber ‘02 spoke about the impact of a St. Andrew’s education, as well as the legacy of her family supporting the school with the Joan and Jeff Taber Scholarship Fund. 

“After attending St. Andrew’s for only a few months, it felt evident the school looked at each student holistically,” Taber said. “Education was not about simply finding correct answers to questions or memorizing formulas needed to pass a test. The process and developing solid academic skills were always more important than the product and, above all, to do so with integrity. These ideals were expected in the classroom, art studio, or athletic fields.”

The gala featured live entertainment by student performers and the Eden Casteel Trio, dinner and drinks by Easy Entertaining, an exciting live auction led by Bruneau & Co. Auctioneers, and raffle prizes. All event proceeds will strengthen St. Andrew’s mission and support the school’s signature programs for this current school year.
