Barrington High School volleyball team tops Townies and Patriots

Eagles go 8-1 through the first half of the season

The Barrington High School boys volleyball closed out the first half of the season with an overall record of 8-1.

On Monday, April 24, Barrington defeated East Providence 3-1. The game scores were 25-18, 25-18, 21-25, 25-21. Luke Van Ness held steady for the Eagles with eight digs and a much-needed 94.4 percent serving average. Cam Kelley led the Eagles’ attack with 11 kills and chipped in defensively with seven digs. SangMin Park quarterbacked the Eagles with 30 assists. 

On Wednesday, April 26, the Eagles hosted Pilgrim and swept the Patriots 3-0. The game scores were 25-19, 25-12, 25-15. 

Jake Juutilainen stepped in and contributed six kills, four digs and was 91 percent from the service line. Also, Evan Katsinas came off the bench as a serving specialist and lit up the Patriots with three aces. He led the Eagles with 100 percent serving efficiency. 

The Eagles begin the second half of 2023 on Tuesday, May 2, with a match against Central and at home on Wednesday against West Warwick.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
