Barrington Police responded quickly to a report of a suspicious person spotted on the Barrington High School campus Wednesday morning, May 17.

At about 10 a.m., school officials received multiple reports from students and faculty that a suspicious person was walking along the front of the high school property and in the staff parking lot. School officials contacted the school resource officer, who checked the area and located the suspect. 

Barrington Police Captain Kevin Igoe said the SRO spoke with the individual, who was identified as a 60-year-old man from Cranston. He said the SRO told the man that Barrington High School has a closed campus during school hours. The SRO then issued the man a no trespass order for the property.

The man told police that he had stopped briefly to watch the students playing football during gym class. Police said the man exited the campus, heading south toward County Road. 

BHS Principal Chris Ashley sent an email to students’ families following the incident. 

“Officer Joel has determined the campus is safe and there is not a threat to school safety. We have also notified students and faculty of the incident,” stated the email from Principal Ashley. “Safety is our top priority and I appreciate the faculty's swift response to call the main office and make a report. We know it is always better to make the report and check on any potential suspicious activity.”
