A discussion about the former Carmelite monastery property spun into a lesson on how to access Barrington Town Council documents.
Members of the Council had earlier requested town administrators draft a document listing frequently asked questions (and corresponding answers) pertaining to the monastery property. But just a few minutes into the discussion at the June Council meeting, Adelaide Avenue resident Deb Nyser said she was disappointed that she had not yet seen the FAQs.
Council member Rob Humm said the questions and answers were linked to the Council agenda online, but that did not entirely satisfy Nyser. Council President Carl Kustell said it would be better practice to provide hard copies of the documents also.
Councilor Braxton Cloutier then offered a quick tutorial on how to find the FAQ document online. He started by telling people to take out their cell phones.
The directions did not sit well with Nyser, who said she was feeling scolded for not knowing how to locate the document online.
Cloutier said he just wanted people to know that the information provided to Council members was also available to the public.
Another resident asked that the link be highlighted on the Council agenda, thus making it easier to find.
Eventually the discussion shifted to planning neighborhood meetings where people could discuss the monastery property with Council members.
