Letter: Barrington revaluation impact — average increase is 45 percent

To the editor:

In the April 3 edition of the Barrington Times there was an article about the new property tax assessments. The article included the percent increase for a random sampling of properties from a variety of neighborhoods.

Property owners want to know the impact of the reassessment on their own property. According to Northeast Revaluation Group, the average increase in assessment is 45 percent. In general, if a property owner’s revaluation went up more than 45 percent, they will be paying a greater share of the tax levy; if it went up less than 45 percent, their share will be less.

It would have been more informative for the Times to provide the average increase in assessment for the town.
