EAST PROVIDENCE — Multiple East Providence Fire and Police Department crews and apparatus were on scene of a roll-over car accident at the intersection of Mink Street and Wampanoag Trail mid-morning Friday, July 6.

EPFD Captain John Potvin, Director of Emergency Services, said the operator of the Sports Utility Vehicle and a child suffered "serious" injuries.

Capt. Potvin said the driver, a female in her 40s, "needed to be extricated from the vehicle with the Jaws of Life." She was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment. Capt. Potvin said whether or not the operator was wearing a seat belt was still to be determined.

The youngster, also a female who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Hasbro Children's Hospital.

Crews from EPFD Stations 4, which is on the Trail, as well as 1 and 2 responded to the incident.

Aspects of the accident, including if a second vehicle was involved, remained under investigation as of mid-afternoon Friday.
