They are 5-2. They are working hard. And they are still focused on improvement.

Barrington High School girls lacrosse coach Andy Soutter said his team has been doing well so far this season, but he believes they have not yet played up to their expectations.

“We’re still building,” he said. “We’re still ramping up.

“We’re always improving. Our motto going forward is ‘We’re hungry and humble’.”

Barrington opened the season with three-goal loss to Moses Brown, but then reeled off five straight wins, including a one-goal victory against Portsmouth late last week.

On Saturday, April 22, the Eagles hosted a tough East Greenwich team at Victory Field. Barrington held a one-goal lead at halftime, but lost 18-17 in overtime.

Prior to that game, Soutter spoke about some of his team’s strengths. He said Barrington is solid in its transition play. He said the Eagles have a well-balanced attack.

“A lot of our juniors are putting the ball in the back of the net. A lot of our senior leaders are putting the ball in the back of the net. It’s really nice to see from a coaches point of view,” Soutter said.

“We have a bunch of talent at both ends of the field and in the middle.”

Soutter said his team plays an unselfish brand of lacrosse. He said the girls show great patience.

Soutter said his defense is led by Lily Kirk, Amy LaBelle, Abby Martel and Hannah Jackson, while Anna Lombardi, Alex Hope, Stella Hillier and Violet Gagliano control the midfield for the Eagles.

The Barrington attack is powered by Emma Johnson, Emily Horn and Charlotte Danyla, the coach said.

“They’re a very modest group — we only care about the W at the end of the day,” Soutter said.
