Film festival is this weekend in Barrington

Two-day event offers films, live music, food trucks and more

The second annual FLM FWD film festival will take place at the Barrington Town Hall and Peck Center building campus this Friday and Saturday, July 22 and 23.

The two-day event will offer a slate of different environment-themed films. There will also be live music, food trucks, an art competition, and even a climbing wall. 

Here’s what to expect:

• Doors open at 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; the entrance is located at the town hall driveway near the intersection of County Road and Maple Avenue

• Greeters will check people in from 5 to 8 p.m. Tickets are required. People can get their free tickets at flmfwdfestival.org

• Friday and Saturday, 5 to 8 p.m.: RI Army National Guard will have its climbing wall 

• Friday and Saturday, 5 to 8 p.m.: “River Cafe” will be open; food vendors will be set up in the senior center parking lot and seating will be available near the kayak launch at Library Cove

• Friday and Saturday, 5 to 8 p.m.: Live music at Library Cove. Friday, July 22 will feature Morgan Johnston at 5:30 p.m., and Joel Robby at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 23 will feature the Sydney Mecca Trio at 5:30 and Joel Robby at 7. 

• Friday and Saturday, 5:30 to 7 p.m.: Children’s and family activities, including an art booth, and an art competition with a nature theme.

• Friday and Saturday, 5 to 8 p.m.: Community puzzles for different age groups

• Friday, 8 p.m.: Announcement explaining the background of the festival theme, the jury and introduction of the films.

• Friday, 8:30 p.m.: Film program begins

• Saturday, 8 p.m.: Community recognition of people in Barrington who are contributing to protecting nature in town.

• Saturday, 8:30 p.m.: Film program begins

• Parking: Film festival organizers have agreements with the owner of the Barrington Shopping Center to use that lot for parking, as well as the Bayside YMCA and the St. John’s Church parking lot. There will be yellow signs directing people where to park. The town will close Markwood Drive to traffic to keep the area around the food trucks and lawn safe for pedestrians.
