The Barrington High School boys tennis team defeated defending state champions South Kingstown, 4-0, on Thursday afternoon and will play for the Division I state championship on Saturday.
The Eagles won all four singles matches against the Rebels in the Division I state semifinals. James Bogdanovic won his match at first singles, 6-1, 6-2; Eric Zhang won at second singles, 6-2, 6-0; Owen Voigt won at third singles, 6-2, 6-1, and Alex Caizzi won at fourth singles, 6-2, 6-4.
The semifinal victory sends Barrington into the finals against Bishop Hendricken on Saturday. The match will be played at Slater Park at 2 p.m.
The Eagles finished the regular season with a 15-1 record, and defeated Hendricken, 4-3, on Wednesday, May 23, in the final match of the regular season. Barrington's lone loss of the season came against Hendricken, 5-2, on April 23.
Hendricken entered the Division I playoffs as the number 1 seed and defeated Wheeler, 4-0, in the other semifinal match. Barrington was the number 2 seed in the playoffs.
