The Barrington High School baseball team knocked off St. Raphael’s Academy 10-2 on Monday night, April 8, and improved to 3-0 in the division.

The victory over the Saints followed a season-opening 1-0 win against East Greenwich on Tuesday, April 2, and a 13-1 victory at Middletown on Friday, April 5.

Jack Lawson pitched six solid innings for the Eagles against St. Raphael’s, and Nate Coutant closed it out with a scoreless seventh. Lawson struck out six St. Raphael’s batters, and only allowed three hits and one earned run. 

Trevor Snow went 3-for-3 with three RBI and Luke Tanous hit a pair of doubles and drove in two runs. Grant Culton hit a triple and drove in a run, and Miles Fontaine ripped a double over the right-fielder’s head and scored on a single up the middle by Snow. Quinn Murphy laced a two-run triple at the plate and scored when a Saints’ throw went awry. Murphy also delivered a highlight defensive play — the centerfielder sprinted into the right-centerfield gap and caught a ball that seemed destined for extra bases. 

Against Middletown, Gabe Tanous enjoyed a multiple hit day at the plate, finishing 4-for-4. He also scored four times. Fontaine had two hits including a home run over the right field fence, and Culton had two hits. 

Alex Anderson, David Redmond and Coutant limited the Islanders with solid pitching performances. Anderson went three innings and scattered three hits while striking out four. Redmond went two innings, scattering four hits and did not allow a run. 

The game went six innings, due to the mercy rule.

In a rematch of last year’s Division II semifinal playoff series between the Eagles and Avengers, Barrington brought home a 1-0 victory.

Lawson tossed a complete-game and Finlay Thomson drove in Nick Scandura for the game’s only run. 

Lawson scattered three hits while striking out six Avengers and walking only two. 

In the bottom of the fifth, Scandura belted a double into the right-centerfield gap and scored when Thomson ripped a single off the Avengers’ starter. 

Barrington is scheduled to play at Tiverton on Wednesday, April 10 at 4 p.m.
