Barrington track teams place in top-10 at states

Boys sprint to fourth place; girls finish seventh

Ethan Knight earned the title “State Champion” as he ran to a first place finish in the 55-meter hurdles at the indoor track state championship meet on Saturday, Feb. 18. 

Knight, who clocked a 7.74 in the event, paced the Barrington High School boys indoor track team to a fourth place finish at states. The BHS girls indoor track team finished in seventh place at states.

Knight was one of three Barrington High School student-athletes to place in the 55-meter hurdles. Bobby Wind sprinted to a fourth place finish and Eli Terrell finished in fifth. Terrell also finished fifth in the long jump with a distance of 21 feet, 3.75 inches. 

Barrington High School’s 4x200-meter relay team also ran well at states. Nate Greenberg, Gabe Tanous, Knight and Iain DeBoth clocked a 1:35.71 and finished in fourth. 

DeBoth celebrated a third place finish in the 300-meter race. The junior clocked a 36.86. Knight finished eighth in the 300.

The Eagles’ 4x800-meter relay team — comprised of Charlie Stockwell, Michael Chun, Sam Bishop and Daniel Chun — ran to a fourth place finish. They ran a season’s best time of 8:33.50.

Michael Fay had a strong state championship meet with a fifth-place finish in the shot put and a fifth-place finish in the weight throw. 

Barrington’s Brandon Piedade, Tanous, Hayden Knight and Ethan Knight teamed up to finish fifth in 4x400-meter race. Piedade also secured a sixth place finish in the 3,000-meter race. 

Girls relay finishes second

The BHS girls 4x800-meter relay team ran to a second place finish at the state championship meet. The team of Kyle Keough, Indie Lamb, Olivia Johnson and Caroline Reznik put together a strong bid for the top spot, but fell just shy of first place — the Eagles finished with a time of 9:57.53, while first-place South Kingstown clocked a 9:57.44.

Reznik also competed in the 1,500-meter race, finishing in eighth-place with a time of 5:12.15. 

Sophia Ford finished fourth in the long jump. Ford had a top distance of 17 feet, 5 inches. Lily Cregan finished fifth in the weight throw with a distance of 45 feet, 8 inches. 

Alexandra Ford finished sixth in the high jump, clearing 4 feet, 8 inches. 

Jordan Roskiewicz finished seventh in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9:41.
