The Barrington School Department, already in the midst of a search for a new superintendent, will also need to replace its assistant superintendent. 

On Thursday, Jan. 4, Paula Dillon announced her resignation from Barrington Public Schools. Dillon serves as the assistant superintendent for teaching, learning, curriculum, instruction and professional development. 

Dillon’s resignation is effective July 1. 

“After careful consideration and reflection on my professional journey, I have decided to embark on a new chapter in my career,” Dillon wrote in her letter of resignation, which she submitted to Barrington Superintendent Michael Messore. 

“I believe it is crucial for the School Committee and Superintendent to be informed of my decision so that there is a smooth and supportive transition for myself and the district.”

Barrington Schools recently began the search process for a new superintendent — earlier this year Messore announced that he planned to retire at the end of the school year. 

The Barrington School Committee partnered with the firm Hazard, Young, Attea Associates to conduct the search for Barrington’s next superintendent. HYA is holding focus groups this week as part of the search process. 

It is expected that the district’s next superintendent would lead the search process for the next assistant superintendent.  

In her letter of resignation, Dillon wrote that she was grateful for the collaborative efforts and achievements she and Messore accomplished together. 

“I am confident that the district will continue to thrive,” she wrote, adding “I appreciate your understanding and support during this transitional period. If there are any specific procedures or requirements related to this process, please inform me, and I will ensure to address them promptly.

“Thank you for the opportunities and experiences I have gained while serving the district. I look forward to continuing to contribute to the district’s success in the remaining months of my tenure and ensuring a seamless transition.”

Dillon was hired in 2012 as the director for curriculum and instruction. She was later promoted to assistant superintendent.
