Barrington School Committee wants to take active role in contract negotiations

Barrington Educational Support Team starts school year without a contract

A day after members of the Barrington Educational Support Team attended a Barrington School Committee meeting to plead for a new contract, the chairman of the Committee responded.

In a district-wide email, Patrick McCrann wrote: “As Chair of the Barrington School Committee, I want to address the ongoing negotiations with the B.E.S.T. Union.

“First and foremost, I deeply recognize and appreciate the hard-working members of B.E.S.T. Their dedication and commitment play a pivotal role in our schools. Together with all of our professional staff, BEST members are instrumental in ensuring that our schools remain exemplary.

“As of our last meeting on August 31st, I am asking the School Committee to take an active role in these discussions. I am recommending that we step in to ensure that negotiations with B.E.S.T. not only remain a priority but are steered towards a successful and timely conclusion.

“The wellbeing and education of our students are our foremost concerns. This goes hand-in-hand with ensuring that every staff member, including those represented by the B.E.S.T. union, is provided with the conditions that allow them to do their best work.

“I appreciate your understanding and patience as we navigate this process. Thank you for your unwavering support and trust.”
