Eagles shut out Bolts, 24-0

The Barrington High School football team notched its second straight shut-out, defeating Cranston East 24-0 on Friday night, Sept. 29.

The Eagles opened the scoring on a field goal by Ben Aree half-way through the first quarter. AJ DiOrio broke free for a touchdown run to give the Eagles a 10-0 lead in the second quarter.

Barrington quarterback Troy Van Ness, playing in place of the injured Alex McClelland, called his own number while running the option and scampered for a nice touchdown run. Barrington led 17-0 at the half.

Mitchell Ivatts scored the Eagles' third touchdown of the game, taking a pitch from Van Ness and running 20 yards into the end zone.

The Eagles' defense came up with one big stop after another against the tough Cranston East running attack — Owen Willard, Will DiGiacomo, DiOrio, Trevor Snow and Cal Adams led a host of Eagles who made key tackles in the shutout win.

Barrington will travel to South Kingstown on Friday night, Oct. 6 for a battle of unbeaten teams.
