Barrington building a visioning team for public schools

School building committee offers survey to community

Posted

Barrington Public Schools are recruiting members for the district’s “visioning team.”

According to a recent email from the district, the visioning team will assist with the school department’s facilities master planning.

“The team will create a long-term educational vision for our schools,” stated the email. “This vision will define desired future teaching, learning, and school facilities concepts. The visioning will be done as the initial component of a Rhode Island Department of Education process to improve our school facilities.”

The visioning team, which will consist of about 50 community members, will work in an intense, professionally-facilitated workshop to “help create the best conceivable schools for our town.”

The visioning team’s work will follow several community meetings to define community values and planning parameters.

“This initiative of Barrington Public Schools will ensure that future facilities will be appropriate and effective,” stated the email.

Visioning team members will include educators, students, school committee and school building committee members, municipal representatives, business leaders and institutional representatives.

The team members are required to attend two workshops — May 16 and 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The workshops will be led by Dr. Frank Locker, an expert on innovations in education and facilities. Dr. Locker also helped assist in the visioning for the new Barrington Middle School building.

“The workshop will be stimulating, provocative, and enjoyable,” stated the email.

Community survey

The Barrington School Building Committee is surveying the community about priorities for the facilities master plan. Results from the survey will be shared in the May 16 and 17 workshops set for the visioning team.
