Barrington boys finish second at Injury Fund meet

The Barrington High School boys indoor track team is hoping for a three-peat.

Last year, the Eagles won their second straight Class B Championship, while finishing 8-1 in the Metropolitan Division dual meets. This year, Coach Bill Barrass said the team is targeting another title.

“Our goal this season is to win the Class B Championships for the third season in a row,” Coach Barrass wrote in an email to the Times.

The Eagles are also hoping to improve at the state championship meet and qualify more competitors for the regionals. Last year, Barrington finished seventh at states.

“We also hope to see everyone continue to improve,” Coach Barrass wrote. “There are nearly 70 members of the team. Everyone gets to compete and to improve, whether they are one of the best in the state, or competing only in the JV meets.”

Coach Barrass said he has a number of talented student-athletes returning this year, including team captains Charlie Stockwell (distance runner), Michael Fay (thrower), Nate Greenberg (sprints), and Eli Terrell (jumps and hurdles).

Coach Barrass said he is also expecting strong performances from Ethan Knight (hurdles) and Brandon Piedade (distance), and many others.

Strong start

The Eagles kicked off the varsity indoor season with a second place finish at the Injury Fund meet on Saturday at the Providence Career and Technical Academy gym. Bishop Hendricken won the event with 81 points, while Barrington tallied 72, and third place LaSalle had 56.

Terrell, Knight, Bobby Wind and Ryan Martin ran to a first place finish in the shuttle hurdles. Terrell, Jeremy Kuo and Williams Wilkerson teamed up for a first place finish in the long jump relay.

Knight, Chase Squires, Gabe Tanous and Iain DeBoth finished second in the 4x200-meter relay, and Henry Schultz, Fritz Meuhlbauer, Sam Bishop, and Myles Napolitano finished second in the distance medley relay. Brett White, Sam Spector and Ronan Maddock finished second in the weight throw.

Meuhlbauer, Terrell and Tanous finished third in the high jump, while Tanous, Quinn McNamara, Wind and Bishop finished third in the Sprint Medley Relay.

Knight, DeBoth, Piedade and Stockwell finished third in the 4x400, and Piedade, Napolitano, Stockwell and Curran finished fourth in the 4x800. Joe Adams, Spector and Rahul Yehiya finished fifth in the shot put.
