The Westport girls basketball team returned to pulverizing their opponents after losing a close contest to West Bridgewater last Friday. The captains combined for 45 points as the Wildcats clobbered Wareham 52-29 in a non-league away game on Monday. Sophomore center Jenna Egbe broke out for a personal best 12 points as Westport trampled Holbrook 56-7 in a Mayflower Athletic Conference home game on Wednesday. The pair of wins improved their record to 9-1.
“We needed a good bounce back win,” head coach Jen Gargiulo said after the Wareham game. Captains Korynne Holden, Leah Syvain and Sarah Perry combined for 13 steals and 45 points. Holden led the team with 6 steals and broke out for 20 points. Sylvain continued her sharp outside shooting as she drained three 3-pointers and netted 15 points. The senior guard led the team in assists and also made 4 steals. Perry scored 10 points and tallied 4 steals and 4 rebounds.
Sophomore center Jenna Egbe was beastly on the boards, pulling down 11 rebounds and scored 5 points. Meghan Molloy made 5 rebounds and added 2 points.
Holbrook massacre
Eight Wildcats scored in the Holbrook massacre on Wednesday. Sylvain scored 14 points and led the team with 7 steals. Egbe scored 12 points and Tess Silvia broke out for 8 as Westport worked on their inside game. Perry and guard Julia George each scored 5 points. Perry pulled down 5 rebounds and George had 3 rebounds and 2 steals. Molloy led the team with 9 rebounds and scored 4 points. Holden and Shelby Orr each scored 4 points.
