With the fall’s approach there’s seemingly a festival around every corner. The week after next, a brand new one kicks off its inaugural run at the  Westport Fairgrounds.

The South Coast Harvest Festival, created by Michelle Sousa Peay and Brian Peay of Metamorphosis design, kicks off at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, with a grand illumination. The main festival runs Friday and Saturday, Sept. 29 and 30, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Advance tickets are available; to buy them, or for more information, see the festival’s website.  

Organizers have scheduled a long list of activities for this first year. There will be garden displays, talks and demos from regional gardening and landscape professionals, creative scarecrow displays, fall floral and harvest baskets, two live owl programs by Eyes on Owls, and interactive areas where kids can learn about agriculture. Chrissy Joy, a nationally known dog trainer, will be there with her Joy Crew stunt dog team. Professional pumpkin carver Richard Kaiser will set up shop with a giant pumpkin, and will share trips and ticks for carving the perfect jack-o-lantern.

That’s not all. There will be antique tractors and boats, and a local artisan and farmer’s market will feature live music and food.
