Westport Police are searching for the man who robbed a clerk at gunpoint at the Westport Market, 291 American Legion Highway, Tuesday night.
Assisting them in their hunt is store video that shows a well-covered man approaching the store — his hat, and the fact that he keeps his head down, obscure his face.
Detective Sergeant Christopher Dunn said that around 10:12 p.m., Westport Police responded to the market for a report of an armed robbery. The store clerk told them that a man had robbed him at gunpoint outside the store — the gunman threatening to kill him if he did not give him what he wanted, the victim said. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash from the victim along with his cell phone and some personal items.
Detectives say it appears that assailant waited by the side of the building for the clerk to leave.
The suspect then fled on foot headed west on American Legion Highway the clerk said. Officers were unable to locate the man but the victim’s statement, along with observations made while reviewing the surveillance video, provided a partial description of the suspect.
Sgt. Dunn said that the suspect is a light skinned male, approximately 5’10” tall, wearing baggy blue jeans, dark hoodie, dark baseball hat with small white emblems on the front and back, and black gloves. The suspect covered his face while he robbed the victim.
The Westport Police Department asks anyone with information to contact the detective unit (508) 636-1122). “We strongly urge citizens to not approach an individual they think may match the description as he is considered armed and dangerous.”
