For the first time in its short life, Westport’s new Middle High School has a blueprint to follow toward accreditation with the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
The last time NEASC fully accredited Westport in 2013, the middle high school did not yet exist. But with Westport’s next full accreditation coming due in 2025, five NEASC accreditors visited the school in December, meeting school officials in a “collaborative conference” in which educators went over the areas they think the school needs to improve on to fulfill its mission.
The district recently received the resulting NEASC report, and it will be shared with members of the school committee on Thursday, March 7. Educators will have two years to work on the areas specified in the report before the next full accreditation, and while there is no requirement that every area be completely addressed, “it gives us something to work for,” superintendent Thomas Aubin said Monday.
“I think overall we’re very happy with the results of the report,” he said. “We also recognize that areas they pointed out for improvement are the same areas that we had identified.”
