Westport deputy police chief calls it a career

There are more personnel changes coming at the Westport Police Department, following the selection last week of Detective Sgt. Christopher Dunn as the department’s next chief.

Several days after the select board chose Dunn over fellow candidate Sgt. Robert Rebello to replace retiring chief Keith Pelletier, Deputy Chief John Bell also submitted his resignation, effective Sunday, Jan. 6. Bell said he had been set on his retirement for some time — he had no desire to throw his hat in the ring for the chief’s position, he said.

The new chief and, presumably deputy chief when one is named, start Sunday, Jan. 7.
