A Westport couple were killed Sunday morning when the car they were driving was struck head-on in Dartmouth Sunday morning.

Jeffrey and Diane Moniz, both 76, were pronounced dead shortly after the accident, which occurred in the area of 422 Old Westport Road at about 10:30 a.m.

Police said the couple were driving a Toyota Echo struck by a Toyota Rav 4 driven by Dartmouth resident Philip Morris, 63. Police said his vehicle crossed the center line before striking the Moniz vehicle; he sustained minor injuries.

Police have charged Morris with two counts of vehicular homicide by negligent operation, and cited him for a marked lanes violation.

Westport property assessments indicate the Moniz couple owned a home at 2 Mark Drive.
