Tiverton Police: Nearly 50 traffic stops on New Year’s Eve

Monday, Dec. 28

A Brayton Road resident notified police that someone had filed for unemployment in her name.

Nicole B. Leduc, 27, of Fall River, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, blood alcohol concentration unknown, and driving with a suspended license at 4:40 pm on Mill Street. Police had gone there after a vehicle struck a fence.

At 3:25 pm, police and rescue responded to a hit and run accident near State Line Tobacco on Stafford Road. The victim was shaken up but declined transport to the hospital. The other driver, a Seekonk resident, later called to turn herself in — said she had panicked.

Police were called to Crossroad Liquors on Bulgarmarsh Road after a delivery truck driver said someone at the store “threw a case at him.” The driver declined to press charges and was not injured.

A house sitter on Stafford Road called police at 9:54 pm after she said she heard the doorbell ring and the front door open — the person had left when she checked the door.

Tuesday, Dec. 29

At 7:24 am, a Colonial Drive resident reported that someone had left a severed deer head in his driveway.

Police were called about a truck using Warren Avenue illegally at 9:53 am.

At 11:16 pm, a Main Road resident called police to report being scammed out of $500.

Wednesday, Dec. 30

Barking dogs were reported on Hayden Avenue at 8:19 am.

Tara N. Bigelow, 36, of 19 Main Road, Tiverton, was arrested on a charge of criminal violation of a no-contact order, third offense, and on an affidavit and arrest warrant from another department at 12:20 pm at that address.

A sickly looking coyote was reported on Hurst Lane at 1:14 pm.

A caller said that while walking his dog three days ago on Roseland Terrance, another dog came out from a property and bit his dog.

At 3:39 pm, police were called about a vehicle swerving on Hambly Road and driving up onto lawns.

A caller report that two cars were “doing donuts” in the parking lot of The Boat House Restaurant on Schooner Drive at 3:43 pm.

Police went to Bourne Mill Apartments at 4:14 pm for a complaint that two people were arguing about parking and packages in the parking lot.

Barking dogs, an “ongoing issue,” were reported on Hayden Avenue at 4:36 pm.

One person was transported to St. Anne’s Hospital and both vehicles were towed after a 5:13 pm accident at 5:13 pm on Main Road in front of Dunkin’ Donuts and Tom’s Market.

Thursday, Dec. 31

At 11:23 am, police were notified about a pickup truck traveling the wrong way on Route 24. Police managed to stop the truck.

Joseph T. Costa, 26, of Barrington, was arrested on a charge of driving with a revoked license, third offense, at 10:25 pm on Canning Boulevard.

Police responded to a 3:15 pm call about an erratic driver who pulled onto Stafford Road, almost stuck another vehicle, and then “flipped them off” and shouted an obscenity. The suspect vehicle did not immediately stop for police but finally pulled over once in Fall River. The driver, a Tiverton man, said he has Covid symptoms and was headed to the hospital so didn’t see the flashing lights. Massachusetts State Police arrived to handle the matter.

At 5:40 pm, a motorist on Stafford Road reported that the driver of a speeding vehicle threw something at her car before disappearing into Fall River.

Starting at 7:29 pm and for several hours, police checked numerous restaurants and reported no ordinance violations. In several cases, the establishments were closed; in others officers found social distancing rules being followed.

At 10:08 pm, a Briarwood Avenue resident told police that he would like to have a woman “removed from property.” At 10:20 pm, “Party no longer wants female to leave.”

At 10:19 pm, a 911 caller reported shotgun blasts and fireworks going off near Bulgarmarsh Road. All was quiet when police arrived minutes later.

Between 3:45 pm and 11:32 pm, police conducted 25 motor vehicle stops, many on Route 24, Stafford Road and other locations. Most of the drivers received traffic warnings.

Friday, Jan. 1

Between midnight and 2:40 am, police conducted another 22 motor vehicle stops, again issuing mostly traffic warnings along with several tickets.

Police assisted Portsmouth Police at 1:48 am after multiple 911 callers reported that a man was threatening to jump off the Mount Hope Bridge. At 1:56 am, it was determined that the man was out for a walk — no emergency.

Police went to Bay Street at 4:06 pm after a resident called about a neighbor dispute. One resident said that a neighbor is trying to claim his/her property.

Police went to Seapowet Avenue at 4:28 pm for a neighbor dispute.

An officer was called to the casino at 4:45 pm to assist with ejections.

Matthew Joseph Brown, 27, of Fall River, was arrested on two counts of narcotics possession and on a charge of driving with a revoked license, second offense, at 5:20 pm on Shove Street.

Jonathan Lynn, 32, of Beeden Road, Westport, was arrested on a narcotics possession charge at 5:28 pm on Stafford Road.

Robert E. Bishop, 26, of 1 Mill St., Tiverton, was arrested on a narcotics possession charge at 5:50 pm on Shove Street.

At 9:38 pm, police were called to Locals Burgers and Cocktails for a man and woman arguing in the parking lot. “No issue,” an officer determined.

Saturday, Jan. 2

A caller complained of loud music and yelling on Cypress Avenue at 1:45 am.  “They will lower the music,” an officer reported. 

William C. Stewart, 19, of 44 High Hill Road, was arrested on a charge of domestic vandalism at 12:40 pm at that address.

Police were called to the Tiverton Casino at 1:02 pm or a hit and run accident.

Sunday, Jan. 3

Stephen R. Marzilli, 44, of 85 Lake Road, Tiverton, was arrested on charges of domestic simple assault and domestic disorderly conduct at 4:08 pm on Lake Road.
