Stanton-Cross seeks Westport Select Board post

Brewer seeks re-election, Thrasher eyes select board as well

Posted

Town elections are still nearly two months away, but candidates for several positions open on the Tuesday, April 9 ballot have wasted no time seeking laying the groundwork for a potential run for public office.

Among them, Westport Community Schools school committee chairwoman Nancy Stanton-Cross seeks a position on the select board, as does Christopher Thrasher, who chairs the town’s Infrastructure Oversight Committee.

As of Friday, Feb. 12, town clerk Kristin Stinson had marked the following activity on the board of registrars/town website:

For two open positions on the Westport Select Board, incumbent Richard Brewer’s papers have been certified and he will be on the ballot. Apart from him, would-be candidates Craig J. Dutra, Nancy Stanton-Cross and Christopher Thrasher have pulled, or requested, nomination papers from the clerk. In order to appear on the ballot, those papers need to be returned to the Board of Registrars and then certified by the board.

For planning board, candidate Robert Daylor has pulled papers for the one open position.

For the Library Trustee (two positions), incumbents Laura Beth Bennett and Donald Gene Davidson Jr. are certified.

For a one year term on the Housing Authority, Timothy Michael Cayton has pulled papers.

For the Assessors (one position), Sue Ann McDermott has pulled papers.

Nancy Stanton Cross and Christopher Thrasher, who each pulled papers for Select Board, pulled them for one of the two positions on the school committee as well. Joining them in pulling papers is candidate Jason J. Pacheco.

Incumbent Jeffrey Bull has pulled papers for Landing Commissioner (two positions open).

Craig J. Dutra has pulled papers for the Commissioner of Trust Funds.

Incumbent Philip Weinberg has pulled papers for one position on the Board of Health.

• The following positions have not seen any nomination paper activity as of Monday: Fish commissioner, Landing Commissioner and Housing Authority (one- and two-year terms).
