Stanley M. Gwozdz, 90, Westport

Stanley M. Gwozdz, 90, of Westport, died Monday, July 8, 2019 at Hathaway Manor in New Bedford.  He was the husband of the late Dorothy R. (Vincent) Gwozdz; they had been married for 67 years.

Born in Westport, son of the late John and Mary (Pochlopek) Gwozdz, he was a lifelong resident of Westport.  A Korean War veteran, he served his country in the United States Army. 

Prior to retirement, he was a self-employed carpenter and was a member of the local Carpenters Union.  Mr. Gwozdz was a Communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Westport.  An avid hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed going to his family's camp in Maine, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Hathaway Manor, Unit 3, for the care and compassion provided to Stanley.

Survivors include three daughters, Karen J. Gonsalves of Westport, Sheryl J. Gwozdz of Fairhaven and Robin D. Streck of Greenville, Maine; one sister, Mary Long of Westport; three grandchildren, Coleen Magalhaes, Jeffrey Roy and Jason Oliveira; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Chester Gwozdz, John Gwozdz, John Gwozdz, Waldy Poswiata, Nellie Poswiata, Stephanie Ashton, Jennie Niles, Bridget Kowalczyk and Helena Besse.

A Mass of Christian Burial, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be Monday July 15, at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport, at 10 a.m.

Visitation will be Monday at the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Rd., Westport from 8 - 9:30 a.m., prior to the Mass.

Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
