Sophie T. (Pitera) Zembo of Westport passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at home in her 96th year surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Louis Zembo to whom she was married for 52 years. She was the daughter of the late Jacob Pitera and Mary Janusz.

Born in Fall River, she resided in Westport for over 70 years. She was employed by Mervin Hat Corporation and later became a homemaker raising a family of three.

She was an avid flower gardener who took much pride in her home and immaculately landscaped yard. She was well-known for cooking homemade Polish food for every family gathering and her pastries were always baked to perfection.  Affectionately known as “Barchi,” all those who met her fell in love with her kind and generous spirit. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church in Westport.

Survivors include her daughter, Jane Dufault and her husband Donald of Westport; her two sons, Steven Ziemba of Acushnet and Thomas Zembo of Westport; three granddaughters, Sarah Dufault and her fiancée Kaitlyn Barron; Alison Perry and her husband Travis; and Rachel Corwin and her husband, Andrew; and several nieces and nephews.

Sophie was the sister of the late Joseph, John, Walter and Stanley Pitera, Amelia Amaral, Wanda Cordeiro, and Helen Law.

A funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Monday, July 19, from the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport at 9 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Grace Church, 569 Sanford Road, Westport at 10 am.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 4-7 pm.

Interment will be at Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.

Flowers are acceptable or donations in her memory may be made to the Westport Ambulance Fund, 54 Hixbridge Road, Westport, MA 02790 or Amedisys Foundation, 3854 American Way, Suite A, Baton Rouge, LA 70816.

He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
