World War II veteran, enjoyed boating, known for his legendary get-togethers

Robert D. “Pops” Erickson, 94, of Westport, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Georgianna (Carreiro) Erickson.

Born in New Bedford, son of the late Oscar P. and Helen M. (Davenport) Erickson, he had resided in Westport for most of his life.

A veteran of World War II, he served his country in the United States Navy. Prior to retirement, he worked for the United States Government as a general manager for General Service Administration. He enjoyed boating and shell fishing on the Westport River and had the most beautiful garden. He was known for hosting legendary get togethers in The Coop/U.A.E. Lab. Pops truly loved being surrounded by his family and friends; his loss will be felt by many.

Survivors include two sons: Robert P. Erickson and his wife Cynthia of Scott, Ohio, and Raitt P. Erickson and his girlfriend Kristy Robertson of Westport; a daughter, Robin A. Erickson Potter and her husband Jonathan of Westport; seven grandchildren: Shane D. Erickson Potter, Megan E. Pilling, Ashley N. Erickson, Haleigh B. Erickson, Kendall A. Erickson, Svea R. Erickson Potter and Georgianna C. Erickson; six great-grandchildren: Logan D. Erickson Potter, Gavin J. Pilling, Beckam J. Erickson Potter, Nathan K. Pilling, Scarlett Erickson and Rory Simmer; his longtime companion: Patricia Pimentel; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was father of the late Reed J. Erickson, grandfather of the late Ian R. Erickson and brother of the late Paul Erickson.

Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Thursday, March 3, 2022 at the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Rd., Westport at 10:00 a.m.

Calling hours Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Interment in Maple Grove Cemetery, Westport.
