Pride Fest returns to Westport

Founded by Keith and Jesse Dias, the festival runs Saturday afternoon

Westport’s Pride Fest is back, a year after the event was founded by partners Jessie and Keith Dias, owners of the Cat and Raven.

This year’s festival runs from noon to 6 p.m. this Saturday, June 21, at the Holy Ghost Club at 171 Sodom Road.

Last year’s inaugural festival drew hundreds to the Holy Ghost Club, giving Westport a chance for Westport to come together in unity.

“We went in with the basic approach that we wanted to bring the community together," Keith Dias said. "We wanted people to see that a pride event wasn’t just for LGBT people. It was for family, it was friends, it was neighbors — it’s just people."

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
