PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth High School varsity baseball players have gotten their season off to a hot start, outscoring their opponents 26-4 during the first three games of the season.
The Division I Patriots began the season with a two-game series against Ponaganset — the first on the road (May 7), the second at home (May 10.
Portsmouth won the first game, 9-3, then shut out Ponagansett 7-0. Three pitchers were used for the second game, which saw Tim McGuire going 4 for 4 at the plate.
On Wednesday, May 12, Portsmouth took care of business at home against Mount St. Charles, winning 10-1.
Mac Dunn drove in three runs, and McGuire had another big day, driving in two runs on three hits. Dryden Eliason and Chris Bulk added three and two hits, respectively, for the Patriots.
Starter Connor Freitas held the Mounties to just three hits and one run. He struck out six batters and walked none. Freitas also got it done at the plate, driving in two runs on two hits.
Kyle Aubuchon and Chris Chagnon combined for two and a third innings of scoreless relief.
Next up
The Patriots will begin at two-game series against La Salle on Saturday, May 15, at home, with the second game on the road on Monday, May 17.
The team is scheduled to play South Kingstown on Wednesday, May 19, at URI. The Patriots then host East Providence on Saturday May 22, and then Chariho on Tuesday, May 25.
