If you're a fan of golf and you've never had occasion to do so, head over Wannamoisett Country Club in East Providence sometime before the end of the week to take in the 63rd Northeast Amateur Invitational, June 18-21.

While witnessing the best the state has to offer the following week, fans can watch a field that annually includes some of world's best current amateurs and those who will soon become among the best professionals as well.

The Northeast has among its winners Ben Crenshaw, John Cook, Hal Sutton and David Duval among its most recognizable past champions. Of a bit more recent vintage that list includes 2025 European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald, Dustin Johnson and Collin Morikawa.

Reigning Northeast Am champ Anthony Delisanti, a native of New York state who just completed his senior season at Valparaiso University, leads the 2025 field. Delisanti earned the Missouri Valley Conference's Player of the Year Award after being chosen as the league's player of the week five times during the regular season. Delisanti next finished solo fourth in the MVC Championship tourney and received a berth as an individual into the NCAA Golf Championship Urbana, Ill., regional hosted by the University of Illinois.

Also back is 2024 Northeast runner-up, Bryan Lee of the University of Virginia, who last month helped the Cavaliers to a runner-up result as well in the 2025 NCAA Golf Championships to Oklahoma State, who will be represented in Rumford this week by Preston Stout. Top-ranked junior Miles Russell, the 16-year-old high schooler, makes his second consecutive appearance in the Northeast.

Also back in the field from last year are top 10 finishers Cameron Tankersley (T-3 and from the University of Mississippi) and Paul Chang (T-9 and also from UVa).

Another of the Cavalier standouts and considered among the best amateurs in the world at the moment, Connecticut native Ben James, is at Wannamoisett this week. Other notables in the field are Auburn's Josiah Gilbert, Jacob Modleski of Notre Dame, Oklahoma's Jase Summy, Jack Turner of Florida, Wells Williams of Vanderbilt and Max Herendeen of Illinois.

Whenever it's a Walker Cup year, as 2025 is with the next playing at Cypress Point on the Monterrey Peninsula next to Pebble Beach in September, the Northeast and its brethren on the Elite Amateur Series rota take on even greater significance. U.S. Walker Cup Captain Nathan Smith will be in attendance as he evaluates selections for the team.
