Thank you to all who helped with our effort to help save the monarch butterfly.

According to the US Fish and Wildlife Service, the monarch butterfly is heading for extinction — unless we turn the tide it is in danger of being extinct within 20 years!

The Tiverton Arts Council is trying to help monarch butterflies flourish. We handed out more than four hundred packets of milkweed seeds at recent celebrations such as Pardon Gray Day and at public facilities such as the Town Hall and Library.

We have given distributed seeds to individuals with land that is not cultivated, to encourage larger plots of milkweed plants, a necessary favored food of the Monarch.

All these small efforts combined with a better awareness of the plight of the monarch will hopefully result in positive outcome. The monarch is one of the prime pollinators of our plants. Again, thanks for all the help, including publicity. Remember that in August of 2020, the Arts Council will have a monarch butterfly themed exhibit at the Town Hall.

Our next event will be “An Itsy-Bitsy” Holiday Art Show and Sale. We are also inviting the public to submit a homemade holiday ornament for the Tiverton Tree at Town Hall. All entries will be eligible for a drawing of prizes. The tree decorating event will be held on Sunday, December 8, at 2 p.m. at the Town Hall. Ornaments may be dropped off at Town Hall or the Library.
