Letter: Trump’s no Boy Scout, but I’ll still be voting for him

To the editor:

The following is intended to be an open letter to attorney Arlene Violet in response to her open letter published by East Bay Media on Sept. 16-17, 2020.

I am writing this open letter to express my great disappointment with your letter published last week in the Portsmouth Times (and I expect in the other East Bay publications). My disappointment stems from your from what appears to be your obvious dislike of President Donald Trump given your writing of his admittedly poor statements with regard Sen. McCain, failing to shake hands with Nancy Pelosi and his beliefs that the media is biased.

I will readily admit that Trump often shoots from the hip and has certainly not lived a Boy Scout life. He has been a hard-nosed business man and certainly not a politician in the usual sense of the word. However, I shall vote for him because of his accomplishments, most of which he related in the wonderful state of the nation address that he gave and Pelosi tore up.

Of most important to me is the appointment of two and hopefully a third conservative Supreme Court justice. I am a father of four, grandfather of nine, great-grandfather of four and having held each in my hands shortly after their birth, I can’t believe anyone would support the murder of an infant in the womb or as some would have it, shortly after birth.

In addition, of course, the record shows the Trump administration has:

• completed middle class tax cuts that sent our economy booming.

• began construction of a border wall (originally a Democratic idea) to keep out undocumented aliens.

• defeated ISIS and eliminated radical Islamist terrorist masterminds.

• dropped poor international treaties that were unfavorable to the U.S. and replaced two of them with favorable ones.

• has made USA a No. 1 producer of energy in the world.

• has strengthened our armed forces while bringing back the troops from several losing causes.

• moved our embassy in Israel to Jerusalem and has helped negotiate peace treaties between Israel and two Arab countries.

Arlene, as a former Catholic nun, I hope you will join me and vote “Pro Life.”
