Letter: Standing with Israel

Posted

To the editor:

From time immemorial, the Jewish people have endured countless atrocities - from the oppressive rule of Pharaoh, the wickedness of Haman, the horrors perpetrated by Hitler, and now to the relentless onslaught of Hamas. They have been subjected to enslavement, torture, and genocide. Pogroms, Kristallnacht, the Holocaust, and the ongoing atrocities serve as haunting reminders. What is their crime? They breathe and they are Jews.

What should be our response? It is incumbent upon us to stand in solidarity with our Jewish friends and neighbors in town and across the nation, as well as for the nation of Israel. It is my sincere hope that the TC will organize a vigil, to be led by willing leaders from the local synagogue, in collaboration with other religious leaders in town. And post haste.

We cannot afford to equivocate or fall into the trap of moral equivalence. We find ourselves face to face with an evil of unimaginable magnitude.

Elie Wiesel, a survivor of the Holocaust, once stated, "Indifference, to me, is the epitome of evil." Indeed.
