Letter: Let me keep working on Westport's many important issues

To the editor:

While the political tide seems to be rising here in Westport I ask voters to continue allowing me to focus on issues effecting their lives, including technology, public safety, smart growth, sustainable development, and supporting zoning reform to revitalize commercial areas.

These, along with conservation measures, open space and historical preservation are proven means of generating economic growth in a controlled and environmentally responsible fashion. I'm proud of my record of preserving farmland and forward vision ideas based on improving and protecting our community. I take great pride in our community's character and I am proud of our hard working employees and dedicated volunteers who have to do more with less.

It is imperative you elect a selectman with experience, who has proven dedication to all areas of town, along with strong work ethic. I respectfully request Westporters allow me to continue addressing solutions to issues effecting your quality of life on Tuesday June 23 ... Polls are open 10 am - 8 pm.

Thank you,

Steven J. Ouellette

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
