What a wonderful story you posted regarding 329 Brayton Point Road! My mother is Marcia Drumright (Bowes). My grandfather did not build the house but our family built the adjacent garage which early on, had a kitchen in it as there were plans to have another living space there as the family expanded.
My great grandparents (Hopkins) purchased the property in ~1949 and kept it for just about 20 years. My grandmother (Doris Bowes) along with my mother and her two sisters (and their dog) were in the house alone when Hurricane Carol hit. The Westport Historical Society has both my mother’s and my grandmother’s firsthand accounting of this day. It’s pretty dramatic to think about it now, knowing that they did not have the benefit of the early warning systems we have today!
Anyhow, 329 is a very special place that has touched everyone who had the good fortune to call it their home at any point in its history. We are so happy that the Burch family has had the opportunity to build their own generational memories there and grateful that they have committed so much to ensure that this special place will be there for the generations that follow. It was certainly an act of love!
Thanks again for capturing and sharing this wonderful story. Just what we need more of these days!
