To the editor:
We are thankful to the Westport and Little Compton fire departments for their extraordinary service in fighting a fire at our home in Westport Harbor during the late evening on March 5. The firefighters arrived quickly, despite the distance from the fire stations, and methodically and expertly controlled and extinguished the fire. It was especially challenging to the firefighters because there are no hydrants in our area, which required them to fill tanker trucks from a nearby brook. Thanks to their coordinated efforts, a large portion of our house was saved, along with our most important belongings.
The Westport and Little Compton communities should know that we are in the good hands of responsive, capable and expert firefighters, who are also sensitive and compassionate in performing their jobs. We are also thankful to the members of our community who have reached out to us with support during our time of need. It is reassuring and heartwarming to know that Westport is indeed a caring community. Thank you.
